The Pacific Biodiversity Institute provides independent scientific assessments of wildland fires burning in the western United States. Our goal for the 2001 fire season is to provide:

  • Independent assessments of the major fires that burn during the summer 2001 fire season.. During the fire season, click on the Individual Fire Assessment Profiles link to the left to access up-to-date analyses of large fires that are burning or have burned this year.

  • An independent assessment of the national fire situation with information not found on other sites.

  • Further assessment of year 2000 wildland fires with a look at ecological effects of the fires and further evaluation of how forest management affected fire severity.

  • Information about fire ecology and objective evaluations of the ecological effects of wildland fire. See our Fire Publications page for last year's report and new information as it becomes available.

This information has been made possible through support from several foundations, conservation partners and individual donors. Your support is needed to help us keep providing the best ecological assessments of wildland fire. Contact info@pacificbio.org for more information on how you can help.
